Our programmes include outreaches, training sessions which incorporate the use of cartoons, plays and comics in the local language(s).
We will relate with communities, identify their health challenges, carry out adequate research and develop materials to address such challenges, foster strong community relations, find ways of improving health-seeking behaviours, ensure delivery of desired results and follow-up on progress made.
A person served by our organisation would be a change agents to others, showing someone our educative materials and correcting such a person – adult, youth or child – about his/her health or health seeking behaviour, while explaining what could be wrong with his/her environment or why it is the cause of an identified ailment in the community. This would promote enlightenment and eventually reduce disease incidence within and outside the community
Because a lot of people do not understand how the body falls ill or recovers, our concept of comic heroes and characters inside the body fighting against germs will shed more light on what happens inside the body during an ailment. With this approach, we are focused on preventing diseases in our environment so that people – adult, youth and children – would understand how pests or germs cause diseases like malaria or diarrhoea, how it affects their bodies and why it makes them feel the way they do; thus building their knowledge rather than making them dependent on myths and superstition.
At H3Initiative, we believe that people will generally have a more positive attitude to disease prevention if they have full information on how these diseases are caused. With the saying, “Knowledge is power” at the back of our minds, we wish to empower people – adults, youth and children – with this knowledge so as to drop infant, child and maternal mortalities in our environment significantly.
